Located in the rang 7 Sud, in Saint-Ephrem of Beauce, Clermond Hamel Ltée is one of the oldest firms of Beauce.
In 1890 Alphonse Hamel built the first mill. It’s main functions were the transformation of wood, the grinding of grains and the manufacture of flour. The plant was then the revenue source of two families. |

Adjutor Hamel took over from 1935 to 1957. The mill continued sawing the logs of the cultivators, as well as producing cedar shingles. It also operated the equipment serving to produce animal feed and flour.
In 1957, Clermond Hamel and Louisette Rodrigue made room for changes and for the modernization of the previous installations. In the beginning, with two employees, the plant sawed 1,000,000 feet of wood per year.
Having declared complete loss after the fires of winter 1970 and of 1981, the enterprise owes today’s position to the entrepreneurial spirit of Mr Clermond Hamel, who, by his vision and his will to succeed, allowed every time the reconstruction and modernization of the mill. Over the years, the establishment of new working methods as well as technological innovation brought a massive job creation, giving work to 75 employees in 1990 and attaining a production of 23,000,000 feet of wood yearly.
In 1990, Carmin Hamel and Lucie Hamel took over. Important investments were made at the level of the sawing techniques, sorting, staking and automatization of the firm. The construction of wood driers and the installation of an automatic sorting table allowed the enterprise to benefit from continuity of purpose: to offer a high quality product.
Today the firm specializes in the manufacture of construction wood, beams, and also of wood of specific dimensions in essence of fir, spruce, red pine and hemlock. It brings job to more than 70 workers and produces yearly 50,000,000 feet of wood. The mill is equipped with three driers and one planing mill. The firm constantly ameliorates the production techniques by regular investments in automation.
Clermond Hamel Ltée is proud to have as relay the fifth generation of Hamel which gets involved in a remarkable manner in the operations and new plans for the firm. France, David and Nicolas will know how to follow the job of master-builder undertaken by their forefather Alphonse Hamel more than 120 years ago. They will continue to assure the permanence of this firm which is part one of the bests of our territory
